My Peg Legged Pete.

Ryan finally did it!! He was very brave and had his subtalor joint fused. (that means ankle in normal person talk) We went into the hospital on November 19th for the surgery- (Yeah for all of you wondering that was the day after Ryan's dads funeral- yeah pretty much a BAD week)

Anyone that knows Ryan is aware that he HATES anything to do with Dr's, hospitals, Needles, etc.
So we get to the hospital and Ryan is slightly freaking out. His blood pressure was 179/129. (Normal is 120/80) He may have been a bit stressed! :) The nurse says she needs to take blood. Ryan is NOT happy and to top it off the doctor is not going to be there for 2 hours and we are the 2nd case of the day so we are looking at 4 hours until he goes back for surgery. Ryan found this out and was ready to bail!! Luckily the anesthesiologist is my moms friend and gave him some sedation... 25 minutes later.... Happy Ryan (which also means Happy Megan :)

We finally get him into surgery... 3 hours, 4 screws, 1 plate, cadaver bone graft, ligament repain, straightened heel and toes, and Achilles tendon loosening.
Ryan was out of surgery!! Yeah!!

We got him up to his room. The nurses up there were saying that Ryans Cast was one of the biggest they had seen. It is huge!!
It Must of been Ryans lucky day because his room overlooked the LIFE FLIGHT PAD!!!
Could this get any better to a lover of all emergency vehicles.... and guess what" Life Flight Landed!!!

The next morning I went to pick him up and he was hurting and not doing to well on the crutches. We debated staying another night but Ryan wanted out of the hospital and they sent him home with a walker and Crutches and a "good luck"

Ryan was completely down for 5 days and just recently has felt good enough to roam around the house and he is getting a bad case of cabin fever! Today he was almost begging me to let him go with me to pick up Whitley from preschool.

We also got a cool little scooter rental today
and now he is getting around alot easier and faster.
He is non weight bearing on his foot for 12 weeks. So in February he will be able to walk!! February can't come soon enought fo my peg legged Pete :)
